forte dei marmi

The city

Forte dei Marmi is one of the most exclusive and elegant tourist resorts in all of Versilia.

A small jewel that has been a true style icon since the 1960s. Established in Roman times, Forte dei Marmi began to expand in a decisive manner starting from the 16th century due to the opening of the quarries in the mountains behind it. In that century the Fort began to grow thanks to the reclamation operations that lasted until the entire seventeenth century. After the construction of the Fort was completed in 1788, in the nineteenth century the Versilian town began to become the attractive tourist resort we know today.

What you can see

Forte dei Marmi is one of the most exclusive and elegant tourist resorts in all of Versilia.

A small jewel that has been a true style icon since the 1960s.

Established in Roman times, Forte dei Marmi began to expand in a decisive manner starting from the 16th century due to the opening of the quarries in the mountains behind it.
In that century the Fort began to grow thanks to the reclamation operations that lasted until the entire seventeenth century.
Symbol of the cosmopolitan Forte dei Marmi - in addition to the Fort that gives it its name and today the site of many exhibitions and events - is the well-known pier, formerly used to allow the loading of marble extracted from quarries and brought directly onto ships.
In recent decades, the pier has been imitated by almost all the other places that overlook the beaches of Versilia.

The city lends itself to luxury tourism, perfect for high fashion shopping in luxury boutiques and famous for its seaside restaurants and glittering nightlife.
For this reason, in the Vittoria Apuana district, the elegant and opulent villas surrounded by huge parks have multiplied with the impressive panorama of the Apuan Alps that stand out in all their majesty just behind the town.

In addition to shopping, as in the rest of the coast, the beach cannot be missed on a holiday in Versilia.

The area is home to entrepreneurs in the sector, accustomed for decades to take care of the area to the maximum: the coast is characterized by the presence of splendid prestigious bathing establishments that offer relaxation and many services.

The characteristic of the sandy bottom is that it is rather low, which allows you to enjoy relaxation a few meters from the shore and is also perfect for the needs of families with children.

"La Versilia"

Versilia is waiting to be discovered: a week passes quickly between nature, sea and historic villages, passing from the endless beaches to the panorama of the Apuan Alps.

A few km from Forte dei Marmi it is possible to relax at the Terme della Versilia, which allow you to isolate yourself and enter a universe of well-being.

One of the most fascinating places to visit is Monte Forato in Alta Versilia: it is a large arch extended between the two peaks of the mountain, it looks like a large hole and represents a natural window on an uncontaminated landscape.

The ancient Via Francigena also passes through Versilia, an obligatory route for lovers of trekking and cycling tours.

The medieval villages around Forte dei Marmi also overlook the Wine and Oil Road, where one of the best DOC wines in Tuscany is produced.

The pride of culture is the Versiliana, an authentic green lung of the coast and a reference point for artists, politicians and prominent personalities from all over the world.
